Horizons Academy officially opened in January 2008. The vision was to create an alternative school to meet the needs of students who have difficulty being successful in the comprehensive school setting.
For the 2013-2014 school year, Horizons Academy has made a major transformation using project-based learning to engage students and teach content across disciplines. Students have been very receptive to the project-based learning initiative and it has also helped create a cohesive student body. All students have been involved with career preparation and some have already been given the opportunity to work in internships throughout the community. The intent is to expand those opportunities next year.
It has been an exciting venture so far and more good things are expected to come.
